Fun. Friendship. Fraternity.
For the love of the game
We’re all about the game and all over inclusivity. When you’ve been going as long as we have, it’s the spirit of giving everyone a go and bringing people together that are important.
We stand behind our pillars of fun, friendship and fraternity, as they form the backbone of our forty year history. We invite you to join us and help keep the spirit of the mighty red, black and golds alive.
As the international motto of veterans rugby FUN, FRIENDSHIP and FRATERNITY suggests, veterans rugby is built on the ideal that anyone over the age of 35 can take part, regardless of personal beliefs, histories, affinities or abilities.
Our rules are flexible and we run a simple colour-coded shorts system that allows for a fun and safe playing experience during every game.
Every Monday night (except over the Xmas break) we have a ‘training’ run so come along and join us at Ballymore for a game of touch rugby, followed by a light meal and some refreshing drinks.
We always encourage our members to bring along their mates for a runaround and few cold beers (plus, a few bonus sore joints too!).
The Goldies’s official clubhouse at Ballymore was made possible by the incredibe generosity of past members, as well as the amazing relationship forged between the club, Queensland Rugby and XXXX Castlemaine Perkins.
We generally organise Veterans Rugby games against teams from Brisbane and around South East Queensland, but occasionally we’ll travel south into Northern NSW, out to the Western Downs or north to Bundaberg just to get a game and catch up with mates.
We generally play our home games on Saturday afternoons, and our away games are usually on a Friday night. We also host games with overseas teams when we can.
Every couple of years, we may take part in international competitions that take place in locales such as Argentina, USA and New Zealand. You never know where your next rugby adventure may take you!
As a club, we’ve been so fortunate to receive such amazing assistance and support throughout our history, so we’re keen to give back whenever we can and find ways in which we can contribute to the community.
Over the years, we have participated in the following efforts:
